Though nothing was really expensive.

Bought a new wet’dry vacuum, RRP£100-150, I paid £72.

Then it was car cleaning chemicals and accessories, £180.

Then my pressure washer packed in mid clean last Thursday. :(

The Karcher K5 Compact 145 bar, RRP£300, I paid £180 delivered.

I still have old faithful, Karcher K2 Compact 110 bar. Had her some seven years I think.

Then after the hosepipe attachment issue on the same Thursday as the pressure washer incident, I thought I’d look at new Hozelock hosepipes. Then whilst at work last night, noticed the store was selling some of the gardening stock off cheap. It’s a stores own brand but it was £6 for 15m hose and reel and will fill as an interim hose until I can decide on which Hozelock hose to go for.

I have the Karcher K2, perfectly acceptable .
I’ve had some issue with the quick connects either coming off or not releasing like they should. But ok otherwise.

The K2 is very adequate, just wanted something more powerful and higher flow rate. I was always nervous the pump would go with it being plastic while the others have metal pumps.

oh for sure, its the base model :D

for as often as you are using it, I’m surprised you’ve had it so long.

I’d really like to have a pressure washer, but I’ve always been nervous about the electric ones (electricity + water = bad). The problem is the washers with a gas engine are so expensive. Have you (or anyone else here, for that matter) ever had safety issues with the electric washers?

I actually bought the K2 for only £30 all those years ago, so I’ve certainly had my monies worth out of it.

I always prime my washers before turning them on. I always connect the water, pull the trigger until the water stops sputtering, then add a lance, and repeat until a constant stream comes out, then turn on the washer.

If it starts to ‘hunt’ (loud screaming), turn it off and pull the trigger for a few seconds, let go then turn it back on again.

On disconnecting, I turn off the washer, turn off the water, pull the trigger to release the pressure in the hose then remove the pressure hose and trigger.

It's always stood me in good stead.

Never any safety issues.

If wary about using water and electricity near each other, use a breaker. But I’ve always plugged my washer into and extension, the cable from the washer to the plug is sufficient that you can keep the plug well out the way. But you can get outdoor power extensions with water resistant or waterproof covers and cover the plug/socket area.

But seriously, just a little awareness and you’ll be fine.

The pressure washer is designer in it's general nature to be safe with water and electricity.

I’ll have to rethink my (probably irrational) fear of them then.  A pressure washer would be a nice thing to have!

No it’s good to have the fear, just a little management of it would be better.

Using a pressure washer to pre-rinse the car before washing will help remove a lot of the heavy grime, but used in conjunction with a snow foam lance and the right p rewash, will result in 90-95% of the dirt being removed.

Also, it’s fun.

Gas pressure washers are seriously loud. Never used an electric one but a small one for the small stuff would actually be nice.

No issues with mine. The pressure washer has a GFI on the cord, near the plug. I also plug into an outlet which is also on a GFI circuit. I’ve never had either trip, despite getting the cord fairly wet (by accident).
